Doing June Dairy Month the CVTC Way

When you think of Wisconsin, what comes to mind? Cows. Cheese. Cows in cheeseheads? Here in the Dairy State, June Dairy Month isn’t just a celebration, it’s a holiday.
At Chippewa Valley Technical College, we’re proud to be part of this deep-rooted Wisconsin tradition through our Animal Science Management program. As we welcome the sunny days of June, there’s no better time to recognize the hardworking farmers, students, and educators who help keep our state’s dairy legacy thriving.
A Rich Legacy
Wisconsin leads the nation in cheese production and is one of the top milk producers in the U.S. With nearly 6,000 dairy farms throughout the state, dairy is more than just an industry. It’s a way of life, a point of pride, and a huge contributor to the economy.
June Dairy Month was established in 1939 as a way to promote milk during the hot summer months. Now, it's a chance to honor the people and practices that make Wisconsin the Dairy State from multi-generational farm families to future-focused students training for the next big thing in ag.
From Classroom to Calf Barn
CVTC’s Animal Science Management program gives students hands-on experience in livestock care, nutrition, breeding, and farm management – training that’s essential for anyone looking to work in dairy production. CVTC students don’t just learn in a classroom; they’re out in the field, working with real animals on real farms.
Whether it’s learning how to properly feed a high-producing dairy cow or understanding the latest in herd health technology, CVTC students graduate with the skills and passion to make an impact in Wisconsin agriculture.
A Degree That’s Naturally Aged to Perfection
With an education rooted in science, sustainability, and the latest ag innovations, Animal Science grads from CVTC are ready to lead the next chapter of Wisconsin’s dairy story. And what better time to spotlight their work than June Dairy Month?
So this month, as you sip your milk, snack on some squeaky cheese curds, or dig into a scoop of custard, remember: Wisconsin dairy starts with dedication, from the farm to the classroom and beyond.
