So you’ve decided that a two-year technical college or community college is right for you. How do you know which college is the right choice for you? Here are some important factors to keep in mind.

ACCREDITATION

Educational institutions seek accreditation to ensure that the quality of education they provide meets or exceeds minimum standards established by an independent, reputable review agency. Accreditation involves regular deep review of a college’s programs, its faculty, curriculum and teaching methods.

If you choose a college that lacks accreditation, you risk not having a degree or certification you earned recognized by potential employers or licensing bodies, or not having credits you earned accepted for transfer to another college.

Did you know that CVTC is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the commission’s North Central Association?

PLACEMENT

Are graduates of the college you are considering getting good jobs in the fields they studied? Make sure the college you are considering has a high placement rate for graduates. If you’re unsure of what’s being reported, ask some employers in your chosen field if they like to hire graduates of that college.

Did you know that 96% of CVTC graduates are employed within six months of graduation and that every program at CVTC works with an advisory committee of local employers who ensure students are being taught what they need to know on the job?

PROGRAMS

Does the college you are considering not only have the program you are mainly interested in, but a wide variety of quality programs? Quality technical colleges provide a wide range of learning experiences spanning many different career tracks and have a broad reputation for graduate success across most sectors of the local economy. Such schools can provide you with many options if you decide to change or expand your focus.

FACULTY

A quality faculty is essential for academic excellence. A good instructor is more than a teacher. They become mentors who care deeply about your individual success, not just in class, but in a career and in life.

Did you know that in addition to having the advanced academic degrees necessary to be teaching college-level classes, CVTC faculty members have direct experience in the fields in which they teach?

Facilities and Technology

Particularly at technical colleges, where more learning is done in hands-on labs or field settings with less reliance on textbooks, the facilities and technology are critical parts of evaluating the quality of the programs offered. Technology has become an important part of every workplace, from the most sophisticated computer labs to the most remote farm fields. Make sure that you will be learning with the technology that is currently in use in your field today.

Did you know that CVTC’s adoption of new technologies has led local industries to upgrade as well, taking advantage of how new workers have been trained?
