You Can Succeed
If you can multi-task; work in an intense, quickly-changing environment; pay close attention to detail; and quickly recall critical information, CVTC’s Surgical Technology program might be right for you. Surgical technologists assist surgeons and other professionals during operating room procedures. They help the surgeon don gown and gloves, pass instruments and assist with procedures, clean up after the procedure, and assist in transferring patients.
In this environment, surgical technologists manage the instruments being used, keeping a clean and orderly set-up. But they also respond to a rapidly-changing environment and know what to do when a surgeon calls for a different approach to a procedure. They are confident in their knowledge and their ability to remain calm and act deliberately in high pressure situations. A surgical technologist has great attention to detail and can quickly recall important information on instrumentation, anatomy, and procedures as the situation unfolds.
Surgical technologists want to work in the healthcare field, and have an impact on direct patient care, but without close patient interaction.
Opportunities Abound
Graduates of the Surgical Technology program find opportunities at local hospitals like Mayo Clinic Health System, HSHS Sacred Heart and St. Joseph’s hospitals, and the new Marshfield Clinic hospital. Initially, they can work in clinical settings, do patient charting and minor procedures, work in the Central Service department reprocessing instrumentation, or work on organ transplant procurement teams.
With experience, they can become a lead technician, be in charge of specialty instrumentation, or work as Central Service management. After two years of experience, they can become traveling surgical technologists and work all over the United States.

The direct experience in the field Surgical Technology students gain through their clinical experience makes them both attractive and familiar to local employers.
