Industrial Mechanical Technician Overview

Find your future in the manufacturing industry, in the fast-growing field of Industrial Mechanics.  CVTC’s Industrial Mechanical Technician program will prepare you to install, maintain, operate, diagnose, and repair automated equipment used in manufacturing industries and maintain facilities/buildings with automated systems used to create the products we use every day.

You will learn cutting-edge technologies in this program and gain the following skills:

  • Mechanical equipment installation, disassembly, and assembly
  • Electrical control, motor drives and PLC (programmable logic controllers) wiring, installation and troubleshooting
  • Hydraulic and pneumatic installation and troubleshooting
  • Laser shaft alignment
  • Conveyance systems
  • Machine tool
  • Preventative maintenance
  • Process pumping and piping and systems
  • Industrial Manufacturing machine troubleshooting
  • Process control systems
  • Building maintenance
  • Welding 

This training will help prepare you for supervisory positions in the industry including lead technician and maintenance manager. This program offers a part-time option and an evening program.

If you decide to pursue further education, your credits will transfer to UW-Stout’s Business Management, Human Resource Management, Operations Management, or Quality Management programs.

Program Courses

These are a few of the courses you will take in the Industrial Mechanical Technician program.

Industrial Electricity Concepts
Students will learn the fundamental theory and application of DC and AC electrical circuits, industrial three-phase motor control circuits, electrical wiring, troubleshooting, and testing common electrical control circuits found in industry.

Piping Systems
This course is designed to give the student understanding and experience on how to select, size, identify, and install a variety of piping, fittings and valves used in air, water, and other process systems.

Fluid Process Systems
Course provides a "hands-on" approach to the study of fluid handling systems. A wide variety of system components including pumps, piping, seals and packing, flow control devices, flow measuring devices, and pressure vessels will be studied.
