Voices of the Valley: Meet Maria L.
From Mexico
This is the history of my dog Aik. When he came to my family, it was a very difficult time for me. In the other book, I talked a little about the loss of my son. I felt the need to hug. I wanted a small dog but my husband has always wanted a Border Collie. The other dogs we had liked to chase cars and I don't like them tied up.
One day, my daughter and I went to dog daycare. When we looked at the dogs that seemed to be talking to you, we scratched their paws and barked, it was really sad. But there was a Border Collie who just watched us and didn't bark. I decided that it was him and I asked God to take care of him and nothing would happen to him because it hurts to have a loss.
When he was adopted, he was over a year old and his name was AIK and that's how we left it. We realized that he was a very abused dog because he was afraid of men and children. Always close to me, my husband wanted to take him with him thinking he was a working dog on the farm and he hid in his little house at the back. He was mine and finally my husband understood it. He hid when my grandchildren were at home, years passed when we watched him play with the children with the ball.
And in the dairy with the workers, he would go with them when he saw that they were going to the car to get something to eat and they would also give him some. This is how his life changed.
Now, when he sees the opportunity that someone is with him, he always brings them a toy to play with. Here in the family, he is loved and respected. My children saw the change that happened in me. The journey with the family, the change from Oregon to Wisconsin
and he adapted easily but he should not be locked up because he does not like it. He is a very sociable and playful dog, good apart from being fearful.
When I started writing about my dog, I didn't think I could say so many things, but I truly love my baby, that's what I told him, I thank God for allowing him to come to my home.
I LOVE YOU AIK FOREVER.
