Voices of the Valley: Meet Xiong
From Laos
I remember a time when something terrible happened to me and my brother. My brother and I went to buy a second-hand motorcycle from the store. That day, we talked with the motorcycle shop owner. He said, "Everything on it is still good and the miles are still good. We also have a one year warranty. The price is $2000." Then we believed him, and I used the money I had saved to buy that motorcycle. I was so happy to ride it back home, but when I got halfway home, it broke down. I went back to the seller, and I said to him, "I don't know what happened to it. Now it looks like it broke down. Can I return it?" He said, "I can't do that for you, but I will fix it for you.'' I said, "If this happens to the motor, I don't need it anymore." He just said "Don't worry, I'll fix it for you as best I can." The motorcycle worked for one month before it broke down again. I found out that this motorcycle had very high mileage. I was tired of fixing it all the time, so I decided to sell it for $1000 on Facebook. Just a week later, someone bought it for $900. Finally, I learned my lesson not to trust any dealer or owner of the vehicle that I plan to buy in the future.
