In the community: CVTC professional development coordinator leads with learning, lives by music
Amy Lueck, a colleague at Chippewa Valley Technical College, teaches fellow colleagues during the week and supports the performing arts in the community with her free time.
By day, Amy Lueck helps colleagues at Chippewa Valley Technical College grow in their careers. By night, and often on weekends, she’s on stage, in rehearsal, or singing alongside others who share her love of music.
Lueck, a professional development coordinator at CVTC, jokes that her life sometimes feels like two different worlds.
“I kind of feel like I’m leading a double life,” she said with a laugh.
At the College, Lueck supports professional development for employees, helping them build skills and continue learning. Outside of work, however, she spends much of her time singing and performing throughout the Chippewa Valley.
Music has been part of her life since she was young. Growing up in Hayward, she first explored music in middle school and quickly discovered her passion.
“I started singing in choirs when I was in middle school, and by the time I got to high school, I was in every choir possible,” she said. “Anytime I could be singing, that’s what I was doing.”
For Lueck, singing is a source of joy and connection.
“I love how joyful it is,” she said. “Even when you’re singing something sad, or you’re singing at a sad event, there’s still so much joy in it.”
She especially loves choral music and the way voices blend.
“Being able to make a beautiful sound and then have that sound impact someone else… watching people’s faces when you sing just gives me chills every time,” she said.
Lueck performs in church, participates in community choirs, studies voice year-round, and volunteers with the Chippewa Valley Theatre Guild, where she has served on the board and helps backstage with productions. In the past six months, she returned to the stage for the first time since high school, performing in a musical alongside her youngest child.
In December, she played Cindy Lou in “Winter Wonderettes,” a musical about a group of friends in the 1960s who have a small-town musical group. Currently, she is the stage manager for “Calendar Girls” with performances through Sunday, March 22, at the Theatre Guild.
Despite the full schedule, she credits her supportive team at CVTC for making it possible.
“My work life and my work team are amazing,” she said. “They know that I do these things… and they are so supportive.”
For Lueck, music is ultimately about connection with family, community, and the people who hear it.
“It just brings me so much joy and a sense of self,” she said. “It feeds my soul.”
