Program Description

Do you have good problem-solving skills and a talent for working with mechanical systems? The trucking industry is strong, which means the need for skilled technicians is also strong. CVTC offers a Diesel/Heavy Equipment Technician two-year technical diploma program. This program will prepare you to inspect, analyze, and repair heavy-duty trucks and equipment. You will receive hands-on training in truck repair.

The program will teach you how to diagnose and repair:

  • Diesel engines
  • Suspension and steering
  • Brakes
  • Electrical/electronic systems
  • Drive train
  • Heating
  • Air conditioning systems
  • Preventive maintenance inspection

CVTC instructors are Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certified Heavy Duty Truck Technicians with many years of trade and teaching experience.

  • Chassis Electrical
    This course will study all aspects of electrical systems found on heavy-duty trucks. Battery testing, lighting, starting, charging, in-dash controls, schematic interpretation, and troubleshooting techniques using a digital multi-meter will be practiced.
  • Applied Mobile Hydraulics
    The student will experience activities with basic hydraulic components including disassembly and assembly of valves, pumps, and cylinders. Servicing and preventive maintenance will be performed on trucks and other equipment.
  • Diesel Engine Overhaul
    This course will study heavy-duty diesel engine rebuild, including diagnostic and disassembly procedures, evaluation of worn parts, component rebuilding, and reassembly and testing procedures including power concepts and dynamometer run-in.
