Accounting Assistant Overview

Do you enjoy working with numbers and supporting a team? As an accounting assistant, you will maintain timely and accurate records of daily business transactions. Examples include: accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, inventory management, and other business records. Learn to assist an accountant in preparing important financial statements.

You will learn how to compile and report financial data. Students will gain experience with QuickBooks and spreadsheet applications related to business. You’ll also learn and practice written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Set up and maintain accounting records and systems.
  • Analyze financial records.
  • Prepare individual and small business tax returns.
  • Prepare monthly and year-end financial reports.
  • Calculate, record, and make required payroll deposits and filings.

Upon completion of this program, students will be able to apply their credits to the Accounting Associate Degree program.

Program Courses

These are a few of the courses you will take in the Accounting Assistant program.

Accounting Spreadsheets
Students will utilize a variety of financial analysis, and database functions, as they create, format, and modify worksheets using Microsoft Office.

Payroll Accounting
Students will make the necessary payroll calculations and record keeping, including social security taxes, income tax withholdings, and other deductions. They will also maintain employee earnings records, record journal entries and generate payroll reports.

Intro to Quickbooks
Students will learn to post transactions, perform bank reconciliations, and prepare financial statements within the QuickBooks system.
